The Truth About Black Friday

The name "Black Friday" was first used to describe the day after Thanksgiving in 1961, by police. This name was not given in praise of great deals that were available at Target or Walmart. The name was used negatively, to describe the heavy foot traffic which was a nuisance to the police department.

Subsequently in the mid 70's, the term began catching on with the greater public as the day after Thanksgiving. Eventually a rumor was spread that the reason the day was called "Black Friday" was related to companies going from the "red" into the "black".

We have another reason this day may be called "Black Friday".

The sheer amount of coffee consumed in order to stay awake and energized while camping out at store doors, may be the reason for the term.

What would all those seeking amazing deals do without the black coffee?

We must therefore conclude, if it were not for the coffee, when managers would show up at 4 a.m. to open the doors, there would be lines of sleeping people at the door.

Hence, the term "Black Friday" is in truth a reference to all the coffee consumed.
