Decaf, Done Right

Why We Choose Swiss Water® Decaf

Pure taste. No added chemical solvents. Just water, time, temperature, and meticulous craft. Here’s why The Chosen Bean proudly uses Swiss Water®—and nothing else—for our decaf coffees.

How Swiss Water® Works (In Plain English)

1) Flavor-Saturated Green Coffee Extract

Swiss Water® begins by creating a green coffee extract (GCE)—essentially water that’s already holding natural coffee flavor compounds (but no caffeine). This lets caffeine move out of the beans without pulling flavor along with it.

2) Gentle Water Soak

Green coffee rests in this GCE. Caffeine migrates out of the beans to balance concentrations—no added chemical solvents needed.

3) Carbon Filtration

The GCE passes through specialized carbon filters that trap caffeine molecules. The flavorful GCE returns to the tank; the process repeats until beans are 99.9% caffeine-free.

4) Drying & Quality Checks

Beans are dried and tested, ready for roasting—now decaffeinated while preserving the origin character you love.

Result: decaf that still tastes like coffee from its region—chocolate, fruit, florals—without the buzz.

Why The Chosen Bean Won’t Use Substitutes

Flavor First

We source specialty-grade Arabicas for nuance and sweetness. Swiss Water® preserves those intrinsic flavors, so your cup still tastes like its origin—not like the process.

Aligned with Our Values

We’re committed to integrity—from farm relationships to roasting. A method that uses no added chemical solvents fits our quality promises and your expectations.

Transparency & Trust

You should know exactly how your decaf is made. Swiss Water® is a clearly defined, repeatable process with rigorous controls.

Consistency You Can Taste

Batch after batch, we get reliable extraction and a clean, balanced profile—ideal for drip, espresso, and cold brew.

Swiss Water® vs. Common Solvent-Based Methods

Flavor Integrity Designed to protect origin character and aromatics May risk altering flavor balance depending on method
Alignment with Our Standards Matches our purity, transparency, and quality goals Does not meet our brand’s decaf criteria
What You Taste Clean, sweet, origin-forward Varies by method and execution

*Examples include ethyl acetate (EA) or methylene chloride–based processes.
