About
How does a guy from Queens, New York end up opening a coffee roasting company in South Florida?
The way I see it, I have lived many lives within my lifetime so far...
In my first life I was a fashion designer with what had been a highly prestigious company in NYC.
In my next life I lived on the Caribbean island of Bonaire, where I owned and operated a Dive Resort of world renown. You can even find me in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue from February 1984 where I am written about in an article called” Eyeball To Eyeball With Weirdies.” After that stint, I moved on to become a distributor of water and energy conservation equipment, traveling the world and doing my part to help our environment.
Next, I became a stocks and commodities trader and learned the joy of making and losing a fortune. Ha! Lots of fun that was!
My recommendation is skip that one!!! Try living on the island instead.
There is a common denominator in there someplace, there must be. Just don’t ask me where.
Now, the next step in my journey has brought me here, to you.
So please allow me to introduce myself: “my name is Moshe and I roast Coffee”
The Chosen Bean evolved out of my desire to share a great experience with others that they might never experience on their own. I have been roasting coffee beans in South Florida for a few years now, sharing them with friends and educating them about the special qualities of fresh roasted coffee. This went of for some time 'till it dawned on me that if my friends liked it as much as they did, then so would others. And so...The Chosen Bean was born. SERVE THE BEAN AND THEY WILL COME! As Marie Antoinette said “let them drink coffee!” We live in challenging times and let’s be honest! Who amongst us could not use a few extra bucks in their pockets to pay off a bill or two... or more.
In each step of the journey towards launching the Chosen Bean, events have happened, doors have opened, and paths have appeared before me that have made me realize that sometimes an idea really does present itself -and if its time has come, no obstacle will fall in its way. Our recipe for success as well as my company vision is very simple. We will sell only what we ourselves would drink. If it is not good enough to bring a smile to our faces then for damn sure it will not be for you. We use only the highest quality beans, in fact those within the top 2% of coffee bean production. We roast in small lots so in essence we are roasting our beans specifically for you.

Much as the flavors of the soil are absorbed by the grape, and later by the wine, single origin coffee beans will take on the unique characteristics of where, and how, they were grown. This will affect the taste, aroma, and even acidity of the brew. In fact, coffee taste can differ from plantation to plantation within the same region - even just down the same road.
Our beans come from Small-scale, family run farms in remote regions of Mexico, Central and South America, Africa, Indonesia and India. Each family’s attention to detail – as well as the care that goes into producing their crops – coupled with near-perfect climates and ideal growing conditions – result in green coffees of exceptional quality.
